URBAN ACTION 2009

Needed: Editors, Writers, Photographers, Geeks, Poets…
Interested in Urban Issues to work on
Urban Action 2009 during Fall 2008 and/or Spring 2009

San Francisco State’s urban studies, planning, and policy journal, Urban Action, is seeking editors, authors, photographers, and others to produce next year’s journal.

Urban Action is a student-run hardcopy and electronic publication that showcases the best work related to urban issues by San Francisco State students. Students from Urban Studies, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Environmental Studies, Economics and other majors are welcome to participate. View Urban Action online at http://bss.sfsu.edu/urbanaction/ or purchase a copy of last year’s journal in the Urban Studies Program office: HSS 263.

Students can tailor the amount of time they spend and the kind of work they do for Urban Action to meet their preferences and life circumstances. Depending on the work they do they may receive
1, 2, 3, 4 or more units of academic credit for their Urban Action work. Typical roles involve:

Urban Action editor: Meet with other editors to plan the content and production of the journal. Solicit, review, comment on and make decisions about what material to include in the journal. Edit articles.

Article writer: Write an article for urban action. Most submissions are papers written for Urban Studies classes that writers polish into final form. Articles go through a rigorous peer review process.

Postcard writer: Urban Action includes short descriptive pieces describing
students’ experience in cities around the world. If you have lived in or visited an interesting city consider submitting a 500 word “postcard” to Urban Action.

Production worker: Work on hardcopy and electronic journal production using InDesign and Dreamweaver.
