Tygiel/History 790/Spring, 2006

Using Blackboard

This course will utilize BLACKBOARD for the posting of weekly student questions.  All students must have a Blackboard account and be able to post messages to the course site on Blackboard.  To use Blackboard you must have an SFSU e-mail account.  To Get an SFSU e-mail account, go to:  https://www.sfsu.edu/online/sfsuemail.htm.

Getting a Blackboard Account

To get to Blackboard, go to online.sfsu.edu
On the right side, under Students, be sure to Update your e-mail address.
To log in, click on Students on the left side of the page. Then enter your Student ID (social security number) and Personal Access Code (if you do not already have one, click on PAC information and follow the instructions).

Posting Weekly Questions

Once you are logged in, there should be a list of courses that you are enrolled in on the right side of the page.  Click on History 790, Spring 2006.  (If there is more than one 790 section listed, be sure you select the 2005 version.)
This should place you on the course Discussion page, listing the weekly assignments.  If you are not automatically directed to the Discussion page, click Discussion in the upper left of the page.
Click on the appropriate week.
All students are required to post questions on the readings each week. Click on Add New Thread.
For the Subject, type Questions on Book Title, i.e. The Modern Temper.
You may either type your questions into the message box, or a better way is to type your questions into a Word document and Copy and Paste them into the message box. Be sure that your messages are sent in Smart Text.
When you are finished entering the message, you may either Preview your message to see how it looks, or Submit it to the Discussion Board.

Other Uses

Under Communications you can also send e-mail messages to all members of the class, or individual members of the the class.
You may also get a class list under Roster.
You may logout at any time by clicking the logout icon at the top of the screen.
