GUIDELINES FOR QUIZ
PREPARATIONS
There will be a quiz every other week to test
your knowledge of the readings. If you are keeping up with the class readings,
you should have little trouble with the tests. Quizzes will be based solely on
the assigned readings and will include all materials since the previous quiz,
including those readings scheduled for discussion on the day of the quiz.
In preparing for the quizzes pay particular attention to things that appear in
chapter headings and subheadings. All answers will be multiple choice.
The questions will take one of the following
forms:
1. Factual. You will be asked to identify or
describe important people, events, legislation, concepts or ideas. These items
will include people or subjects which receive a great deal of attention in the
readings. They will not be obscure.
2. Chronological. On each test there will be
questions dealing with dates. You need not memorize each specific date but you
should know within which decade or span of years important historical events
took place.
3. Interpretive. These questions will ask you
to identify which arguments typify the work of specific authors in the text and
supplementary readings. Pay particular attention to the arguments
introductions and conclusions to each chapter of the textbook.
THERE WILL BE SEVEN QUIZZES. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP QUIZZES. YOUR FINAL QUIZ GRADE WILL BE BASED ON AN AVERAGE OF YOUR TOP FIVE QUIZ GRADES. THUS, IF YOU MISS ONE QUIZ OR EVEN TWO QUIZZES IT PROBABLY WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR FINAL GRADE.
