Peer Advising - Junior and Senior Psychology Majors

 

To be a peer advisor you must:

  • be a junior or senior psychology major
  • have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better
  • have been on campus at least 1 year before spring, 2011
  • have at least 12 units in the major completed by spring, 2011
  • be interested in developing academic advising skills
  • be conscientious about keeping appointments
  • (Web skills are an asset, but not necessary)

 

About the course

  • you'll receive 3 units of course credit
  • you'll get training to advise psychology students
  • you'll help create entry and exit online courses for new major
  • the course counts as a practicum or elective course in old major

 

About the class meetings (Mondays 4-6)

  • one introductory meeting
  • intensive advisor training during the first month of class
  • remaining class sessions are discussion, problem solving, and online course creation

 

About the advising (3 hours a week)

  • 3 advising hours per week to be arranged with instructor approval
  • in the Peer Advising Center, Room EP 326
  • staffing of the Peer Advising Center may extend from 8am to 7pm
