Hasankeyf, Turkey (June 2006)
Hasankeyf is an ancient town on the Tigris River in southeastern Turkey. The
town will be almost entirely submerged under water if the Turkish government's
Ilusu Dam project goes ahead as planned. Earlier funding for the dam was
withdrawn after a combination of local and international pressure. These photos
are from June 2006 when my friend Senem and I visited the town. Some are taken
by me, some by her. Click on the
photos to enlarge them for better viewing. (more photos coming when I have time
to post them.)
