Extra credit opportunities (you may do both, if you wish):

1)  we will hold a brief session of class on Tuesday May 23 from 6-7 p.m. to watch films made by students for their final projects. (Final papers are still due on the Thursday by 5 p.m., although early submissions are always welcome) This extra credit session is worth 2-3 extra points on your final (total number depending on how many points I make the test worth). If you receive an 'A' on the final this extra credit will be added where it can be best used.

2) Watch a film that we did not see in class that is from North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Egypt) or the Middle East (Arab world plus Turkey, Iran, Israel, and Afghanistan) and write a film review that includes a) a description of what the film is about, and 2) how the film pertains to any of the themes of our class; and 3) if it doesn't pertain to any of the class themes, what its main message seems to be. Your paper should be approximately 1-2 pages double-spaced. Please include the film title, director, length, country or countries of origin, and where you obtained or rented the film. Papers will either receive credit or no credit and must be turned in by 7 p.m. on Tuesday May 23. This extra credit is worth 3 extra credit points towards either your mid-term or final (wherever it is most useful). You may NOT write on American films about the Middle East.
