Interrupted Time Series Designs

In this exercise, we are going to evaluate the impact of the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 on the representation of women and people of color in the federal workforce.  Please choose one of the following groups to analyze for this assignment (in other words, please don’t replicate the example I used in class):

q       Hispanics GS 9-12 positions

q       Women GS 9-12 positions

q       Blacks GS 13-15 positions

q       Hispanics GS 13-15 positions

q       Women GS 13-15 positions

1. What is the equation that summarizes the results of your regression analysis?

2. What were the intercept and slope for the group’s representation prior to the 1978 intervention?

3. What were the intercept and slope for the group’s representation following the 1978 intervention?

4. Please draw a graph that represents the pre and post intervention periods (use back or another piece of paper).

5. Please write a couple of sentences describing the impact of the 1978 law on the group you are analyzing.

6. Blacks currently represent about 17 percent of the national labor force, Hispanics and women about 10% and 46% of the national workforce, respectively.  If representation continues to increase at the rate you projected post-CSRA, in what year can we expect your group’s representation in the federal workforce to equal these figures?
