We will be devoting two Saturdays to showing you how to do a strategic performance plan. This differs from a traditional strategic plan, which, in the opinion of the instructors, are outmoded and, well, not strategic. The purpose of this assignment is for you have the experience of, as part of a team, writing up (1) one of the methodologies we will be using over the two Saturdays that will be devoted to developing more strategic plans and (2) the entire strategy for one of the four organizations we will be working with.

Because you will be responsible for writing up one of the organizations, it is important that your discussion on Saturday stay focused on what is helpful, and what is strategic. It is also important that you take good notes.

Each team will be doing each of four distinct methods or steps that are listed in the box below, and which will ultimately result in the development of a strategic performance plan.

However, each team will be doing a different part of the process for a different organization. That is, team 1 will begin by doing the PESTE for the USPS. Then Team 1 will do the Scenario process for the Red Cross. Team 2 will begin by doing the PESTE for the Red Cross, and then the Scenario process for the Community College, and so forth. (We will go over this on Saturday). That will take place the first Sat. We will do the ABP and SPP processes on the second Saturday, using the same four organizations.

Each team will then do two write-ups. The first will be a short discussion of the methodology, and the second will be a write-up of for the entire organization. The assignments for these write-ups as as follows:

The method write-up is expected to be about 2 pages, and will be based on any of the number of sources that describe these methods. Please make sure you correctly cite your source(s). The organizational (strategy) write-up will be about 12 pages; the entire content coming from your work on the two Saturdays.

This is a team assignment, so you will receive a team grade for it. However, to reduce the potential "free rider" problem that can arise in teamwork, please complete the confidential team member evaluation survey. Each team member's team grade may be raised or lowered based on those evaluations.
