| Graduate
Training in Mental Health Research A New Pilot Program Specialization within the Research Psychology Graduate Program at San Francisco State University
|
![]() |
Please note: The Mental Health Research specialization is currently undergoing some changes. Therefore we will not be accepting new students into the program for the Fall of 2003.
| The Psychology
Department offers graduate training in mental health research, in a new
program that combines classroom learning, intensive research experience,
and a clinical practicum in a community agency. The two year program leads
to a Master's of Arts (MA) degree in Psychological Research. The Mental
Health Research Track (MHRT) is a specialized training track within the Psychology
Department's Research Psychology program. Students in the MHRT work
closely with a faculty research mentor, and develop a thesis project based
on ongoing research in their mentor's lab.
A primary aim of the MHRT is to provide intensive research training to students who (1) plan on pursuing the PhD in Clinical Psychology, and (2) are from groups historically under-represented within pre-doctoral Clinical Psychology training programs. This includes minority students, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and older students who have returned to pursue their educational goals after taking time away from school. |
