"Is the War Lost? Assessing Contradictory Claims on the Afghan War" by Prof. Gilles Dorronsoro

Gilles Dorronsoro has studied and written about politics and war in Afghanistan since the early 1990s. He was most recently there in March and July of this year. He is often quoted in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other media outlets; has written a series of influential reports on the current war in Afghanistan, and is the author of the acclaimed Revolution Unending: Afghanistan, 1979 to the present (Columbia U. Press, 2005).

Nobody Knows About Persian Cats

By award-winning director Bahman Ghobadi, winner of the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Film follows a pair of young musicians recently released from prison, on a mission to take their rock band to Europe. Forbidden by authorities to play in Iran, they plan their escape abroad with a fast-talking music promoter. Vowing to play one last show before leaving Tehran, their dangerous mission takes them on a free-wheeling journey through the city's vibrant and diverse underground scene, home to an estimated 2,000 illegal independent bands.
