About the Dean

r. Joel J. Kassiola is currently a member of The Department of Political Science and Dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at San Francisco State University. He has held this position since 1995.

Prior to coming to San Francisco State University, Kassiola was Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Brooklyn College of The City University of New York for three years. He was a member of the Political Science faculty at Brooklyn College for 27 years. While at Brooklyn College, Kassiola was honored by being selected as an American Council on Education Fellow.

He spent the 1991-1992 academic year as an ACE Fellow at Haverford College in Pennsylvania where he observed and learned about academic administration from the President of Haverford.
