...to the Department of Geography and Human Environmental Studies at San Francisco State University. Geographers study, map and analyze our changing natural and social environments at a variety of scales from local to global. Programs leading to the B.A. in Geography include Environmental Resource Management, Physical Geography, Environmental Studies, Techniques in Geographic Analysis, Cultural Geography, and Urban and Land Use Planning. The M.A. graduate program supports international and field research on a wide range of topics related to faculty expertise. Together these provide multiple perspectives and tools to understand the relationships between people and their environments, and solve problems related to local and global change.

Geographers study physical and biological environments, human societies and their interactions across space and time.  We utilize both natural science and social science perspectives.  We seek to analyze the processes, spatial patterns and consequences of human-environment interaction.  We use maps, fieldwork and geospatial technologies such as GIS to solve real-world problems at all spatial scales, from local to global.
