George Feliz Memorial Scholarship

The George Feliz Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each fall to an Environmental Studies major. George Feliz was an Economics professor on campus from 1946 to 1975, and SFSU’s first dean of graduate studies. Feliz was instrumental in helping San Francisco State evolve from a teacher's college to a university. Professor Feliz donated an endowment fund to support a scholarship for Environmental Studies majors with financial need. The scholarship will be awarded annually.

Award amount: approximately $400 (actual amount varies year to year based on interest rates).

Selection criteria: To be eligible applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  1. Environmental Studies major
  2. Completed freshman year
  3. Minimum GPA of 3.0 in all SFSU courses
  4. Completed at least two courses in ENVS major
  5. Currently enrolled at least half time

In addition to the minimum criteria students must demonstrate financial need (through a brief statement on the application form) and preference is given to students who are single parents. Being a single parent is a Feliz Scholarship selection preference but you do not have to be a single parent to be eligible to receive a Feliz Scholarship. Therefore all students meeting the minimum criteria and having financial need are encouraged to apply.

How to apply: Fill out the Feliz Scholarship application form and return it to the ENVS office in 336 HSS by the application deadline. Application forms are available online and in the ENVS deparment office.

Application deadline: 2nd Friday in October, 5:00pm. No late applications will be accepted.
