Sustainability Internship in the Cesar Chavez Student Center
I am looking for an intern in the Cesar Chavez Student Center to volunteer, as well as recruit volunteers, to monitor the compost, recycling and garbage bins. They will come up with creative ways to get students to participate in making the Student Center sustainable through our composting program. They will train volunteers on how to properly sort waste, and the volunteers will then monitor the waste stations inside the Student Center by directing students on how to properly sort their waste. They will make a schedule for the volunteers and follow up on correspondences with the volunteers. I would also arrange for the intern to tour the SF dump, the Recycling Center and Jepson Prairie (where the compost is made) to get an understanding of where our waste goes after it has been thrown in the bins. I will need the intern to do waste audits within the Student Center throughout the semester in order to record our progress towards zero waste. I am looking for a self motivated, organized and reliable student. I could give the student 10-20 hrs. per week of course credit. This is an unpaid internship, but they would gain some great organizational and management experience, while helping to educate students on why it is crucial to compost and divert waste. Depending on how the program organically grows, some other needs might be identified in the future that need attention. If that is the case, the intern and I will come to an agreement on any additional projects they might want to participate in. To apply contact Emily at emilynaud@gmail.com.
