Research in the Economics Department Michael Bar: Current research is on Macroeconomics and Economic Growth with applications to married women's labor force participation in the United States. Sudip Chattopadhyay: Major research areas concern non-market valuation of environmental resources, primarily air quality and water quality, and the cost-benefit analyses of current public policies associated with them. Current research also centers around applications and evaluation of new and existing methodologies for non-market valuation. Current application includes an EPA-funded research on toxic contamination on Great Lakes. The goal of the research is to assess the costs and benefits as well as to make policy recommendations for cleaning up of hazardous toxic wastes from Waukegan Harbor, Illinois. Anoshua Chaudhuri: Major area of research concerns evaluating health programs, particularly their effect on household outcomes in low-income settings. She is also currently involved in studies related to health status and living arrangement choices of the elderly and immigrants. Don Mar: Major area of research concerns Asian Americans and minorities in the labor market. He has written papers on differential effects of unemployment, racial/ethnic differences in earnings, immigrants in the labor market, ethnic enclave/labor markets, and self-employment. Current research interests include explaining regional racial wage differentials and labor market effects of different social values.
