| This is a picture of the dock loading process, another aspect of dock greetings. With almost 1.5 million visitors a year the dock loadings and unloading need to be organized and efficient. I contributed by communicating the leaving times, directing visitors to the docks, and helping those with mobility needs to the tram loading areas. (photo: Frank Firmat 2004) | As the visitors came off the boat (it usually took 5-8 minutes) I would kill time by telling the group small bits of Alcatraz history. Once the boat was empty I could begin the dock greetings (photo: random tourist 2004) |

| Picture of a dock greeting taken by an international guest from China and later emailed to me. (unknown 2004) | A good portion of my day was spent patrolling the island. This served two purposes. First I was available to answer any questions someone might have and second I was able to make sure the guest were respecting the nesting bird areas. (photo: original source unknown) |

| One of my favorite periods in the history of Alcatraz history was the Native American occupation from 1969 to 1971. I always told the visitors about it and invited them to try and find graffiti from that period around the island (photo: Frank Firmat 2004) | In this picture I’m pointing out the “Indians Welcome” sign from 1969. Most visitors had never heard of the occupation. I enjoyed interpreting the history of Alcatraz for the visitors. Especially when they are shocked or enlightened by something they’ve never heard before. (photo: random tourist 2004) |
