Traditional houses (background)  and sweathouses (left) like these are made of cedar planks. The houses rest on four anchored posts, with cedar planks balanced on top. The top planks of the houses could be easily removed  in  to open them to the outside. Because of the mild climate of Hoopa Valley, the buildings were normally only slept in during extreme heat or cold.                                                                                                    

Guided tours of Hoopa Valley's  historic sites, including the traditional village of  Takimildiń (picture), are available through the museum by appointment. Group rates are available, and  a nominal fee is charged.
