Salinan lived along the coast and in the Coast Range and along the west side of the Central Valley below San Francisco Bay. They gathered acorns in the interior and harvested fish and shellfish from the sea. The Salinan gave the Yokuts shell beads and whole shells, and from the Mainland Chumash they got steatite (soapstone) vessels and Thelumella beads.
