Teaching Large Classes in the Current Budget Crisis: Addressing Diverse Student Needs

As part of the BSS Initiative "Overcoming Barriers to Faculty Communication and Collaboration" the Dean's Office has added a new component on teaching to the annual BSS Faculty Research Series. The budget crisis has created larger classes and a greater diversity among enrolled students. How can we amidst this crisis create the best possible learning environment for our students?
Speakers:
- Anoshua Chaudhuri (Economics)
- Christopher Carrington (Sociology and Human Sexuality Studies)
- Margaret Lynch (Psychology)
will share their strategies and personal experience in teaching large classes.
Topics to be discussed include pedagogic practices to:
- organize and handle logistics
- present course materials to different types of students
- increase classroom interaction and participation
- communicate with students
- assign homework
- evaluate student work
- create out-of-class activities
- give real time feedback
Curriculum resources will be provided. |
