 DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY
 Withdrawal & CR/NC POLICY for SPRING 2007

First Week through Fourth Week of Instruction (1/24/07 - 2/20/07)

Dropping Classes (Deadline: 2/20/07):

Students may self-drop via Touch-Tone. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm he/she has dropped the class. Students should not assume they would be automatically dropped for non-attendance. Failure to confirm may result in a grade “W,” “F,” or “WU” on the student’s permanent transcript.
Dropped courses will not show on transcript record or future class lists.

Fifth Week through Thirteenth Week of Instruction (2/21/07 - 4/25/07)

Withdrawing from Classes
(Deadline: 4/25/07):
Withdrawal from a course may be permissible for serious and compelling reasons. Poor performance is not an acceptable reason. If granted, student’s permanent record will show a “W” grade, but it will not be used to compute the student’s GPA.

Class Non-Attendance:
It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw from class. Do not assume the instructor will automatically initiate withdrawal for non-attendance. Failure to withdraw will result in a grade “F” or “WU” on your permanent transcript.

Procedure:

The student delivers to the instructor a completed Withdrawal Petition with a current SFSU unofficial transcript attached.
The instructor either approves or denies the request, and signs the form.
The student delivers the petition and transcript to the Chair during his office hours or drops it off to the Department of Anthropology in SCI 377 for the Chair’s signature.
If the student drops off the petition, he/she will need to pick up the Withdrawal Petition from the Department of Anthropology in SCI 377 in two to three days. The Department of Anthropology is not responsible for forwarding your 5th through 13th week withdrawal petition to the Registrar's Office.

Approval:
The Chair approves requests only if the following 2 conditions are met:
1.
The instructor has indicated approval of the request.
2.
The student does not have a previous ‘W’ on their SFSU transcript for the course.

Denial:
If the above two conditions are not met, the Chair denies the request.

Credit/No Credit Option (Deadline: 3/20/07):
In courses where credit/no credit grading is permitted, students may select CR/NC either by signing up online at MySFSU https://www.sfsu.edu/online/login.htm by 3/20/07.

Fourteenth Week through End of Semester (4/26/07 - 5/16/07)

Withdrawing from Classes (Deadline: 5/16/07):
Withdrawals are not permitted, except in cases of verified accident or serious illness where circumstances are beyond the control of the student, and where the assignment of an incomplete grade is not practical. Normally, only withdrawals from the University are approved, since qualifying circumstances are not course-specific. In any event, documentation of accident/illness and signatures from the instructor, the appropriate department chair, and the Dean are required.

If the Chair approves the withdrawal request, the Anthropology Department will forward the Withdrawal Petition to the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences for the Dean’s signature. The Anthropology Department's responsibilities of approving and forwarding your request to the Registrar's Office end here. The Dean's Office will forward your withdrawal request to the Registrar's Office.
If the Chair denies the request, the Anthropology Department will send the form back to the student.
