There
are currently some 300 anthropology majors on campus. Anthropology is both
a major in itself and is often combined into a double major with Classics,
International Relations, or other disciplines. Our graduates have entered
the business, public non-profit, and governmental communities successfully
and have been admitted to advanced degree programs in major universities
throughout the United States and Canada.
The
Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology is designed to serve the needs of
students who do not plan to continue their training beyond the
baccalaureate level, as well as those who intend to pursue their
graduate study leading to the M.A. or Ph.D., either in anthropology or
in another academic discipline.
The program
is built around seven required core courses to
provide a thorough grounding in the basic concepts of the discipline
and to enable maximum flexibility in choice of electives. Although
concentration in any particular subfield of anthropology is not
required for the baccalaureate degree, several sequences of courses
are recommended. Students who wish to plan such concentration are
urged to consult with an adviser.
